Is there a noticeable difference between grilling and oven-cooked meat?

I've been thinking of getting a charcoal grill for a while now. Right now I mainly cook chicken in the oven and set it to 450 for 15-20 min then to broil last 5 min to char it (I love charred). It turns out okay but I was wondering if grilling it would be any better and worth the hassle of cleaning and maintaining the grill.

What do you think?
