Is there a list of interesting consumer gadgets?

I'm a male who is turning 16 soon and would like to buy myself something interesting and unique. I'm looking for something that most people don't have, but still does quite a bit and/or does whatever it does exceptionally. Some good examples are the Amazon Kindle and Intuos graphics tablets. Unlike cameras and iPods, these aren't commonplace with your average teenager. However, they're still versatile and do tasks well. I'd like something that will last a long time (at least until it's obsolete) and may have multiple uses. but won't break the bank. It shouldn't be much more than $300.

If you have any lists or recommendations that fit these criteria, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help with this decision.
