Is there a guarantee I will do what I sign up for in the military?

Right now I am still in high school. My game plan after I graduate is to get my bachelors/masters/PhD in social working/counseling/related area and then enlist in the military. I was just on todaysmilitary.com and it said at the bottom "There is no guarantee a servicemember will receive the job they want. The Services determine the best fit for each individual's skills, while placing people where they are needed most." Does that happen a lot-not getting the job you wanted?
 
from what ive heard recruiters are horrible when it comes to stuff like that. My cousin went in to be an officer in the navy and they didn't give him his 40k signing bonus...he's O.K with it now he makes 90k a year being a nuclear engineer On a sub.
 
You may not get the job you WANT, but you'll get the job you sign up for. You will get to choose between the jobs that your ASAVAB scores qualify you for. Then again, it depends on what branch you want to. Army will give you the exact job you sign up for, the Marines (20 years ago) would give you a guaranteed job option, in which they would choose for you.
 
The military is black and white then signed. IF youget it in black and white they cant deny it to you its a breach on contract. Make sure you understand everything you sign. Many people dont get what they want because they dont want to wait and theres no available slots open for them. Also alot of people dont get what they want when they are accepted into the program of choice and fail out.
 
There is never a guarantee, there can't be. In fact, you could end up getting the job you want, and bam, you have to do something else.

However, unless there are unusual cirumstances, you will almost certainly get the job you sign up for.
