No. Not really.
Intelligent people must learn. And learning requires conceptualization, memory, and exposure.
One does not need to attend a school to learn or be educated or be intelligent. But one does need to expose themselves to ideas and concepts, to understand them and to remember them.
I have attended several years of college. But I dont consider myself highly educated as far as academia goes. As far as college degree programs are concerned, I have one associates degree and then some.
I do consider myself highly educated though, because Im an autodidact that takes the initiative and the pleasure in the privacy of his own home. As far as education and intellect are concerned, I could probably teach some college classes.
I have always been observant, rational, and a major critical thinker. That is pretty much all you need. I have taught myself theories and concepts and facts before that I was never exposed to, via pure thought exercises... and only later when I discover my ideas are already known do I then develop the vocabulary to match the concepts. It is possible. Original knowledge.
If you want to learn for the sake of learning, there are options. The internet. Public and private libraries. Book stores. You could sit in on college lectures, entire courses even, without being enrolled or earning credit.
There are a lot of stupid people. But stupidity isnt always the inability to learn. In most cases its the unwillingness to learn. In our society we have lazy kids. They would rather sleep, play video games, smoke pot (which is both stupid and also makes you stupider), or make money working the dead end jobs they're destined for. Many of them want the easy out: they like having education, they just dont like exerting themselves or having to try. People in our society want the end product immediately, and they want to make profit without the investment
