is there a difference in the laser lens between different ps3 models?

i have a 20GB model and wanted to know if swapping out with the common lenses would affect the backward compatability with my ps2 games.
i need to know if i can swap the lens out with the common lenses i find online and retain my backward compatability i with my ps2 games. i have a 20GB model whose compatability is hardware based.(non emulator)
