Is the whole story about"General Custard's water boy"a fabricated jew lie

told to jewish kids by their parents? My dad is jewish, and for many years he's been telling me that my great, great grandpa (something like that) , whose name was Morris Glickstone (not sure if I'm spelling it the right way), was a waterboy for General Custer and his troops during the civil war. When the Indians attacked Morris supoosedly either went away for water or ran away, saving his own life by not being around while his comrads were killed. Because of this he was able to have kids, therefore leading up to me.

So anyway, while my grandpa, who is now in his late 80s and dead, had supported this story. The thing is that I don't believe everything that people on my dad's side of the family say, becasue they have blatantly bs-ed and lied to me so many times about random stuff (unnecessarily). They think it's funny and/or polite to bs people, but I don't think it's very funny at all (I dont know about my mother's side....I havnt seen them since I was a very young child)

The reason why I'm thinking that this story is a bs joke that is suppose to be derogatory towards jews (but that has also maybe been used by jews as a joke like 50 years ago) is becasue I have a young friend who I know I am not related to,(though he has parents who are also babyboomers like my parents), and he told me the same story about his great-great-grandfather being a water boy for general custer and not being killed (by the way this kid heard the story from his JEWISH mother). I also heard the same story coming from a random person in a Chasidic synagogue that I had gone to 6 years ago, and this was somebody who I know I wasn't related to. I also heard the same story from somebody online.

So I have the impression that this is just a jewish joke that jewish people were saying like 50 years ago, and were telling their kids in order to get a good laugh out of making their kids think something that isnt true. I have the impression that it's sort of a derogatory joke that refers to jews as being "cowards" or something by not being there when all the other comrads are being killed in battle, or that somehow like "rats" they get their butts out of any dangerous situation.

I tried to googe the name "Morris Glickstone" and I couldnt really get any results relating to this. In order to google the name i had to know what it was, so I asked my dad what it was, and at first he said to me "Don't be fresh" (as if I'm suppose to know that it's a joke, if it is), but then he told me the name......
