is the us an empire & will collapse DEBATE help :(?

i have to be involved in a debate having to do with if the US is an empire or not, and why. Also, if it will eventually collapse. I can only get my information from websites that end in .edu or .org. I'm having trouble finding stuff. so help? pretty please. :(
i also have to compare the US with Rome.
