Is the U.S. really going to go into a depression?

Supposedly there is supposed to be another depression, if we haven't entered it already. There are so many things that I've heard that I need second opinions and facts on. Our states that give off the crops we live on are drowning in the Missouri and Mississippi River(s)... Electricity is supposed to sky rocket by the end of the summer. We're trying to drill near Puerto Rico and our coast lines? Is there any chance that anything will change? Should I be stocking food and money (not that it would make any difference) or something like that?

People are excited about the election because they think things might change... but I'm not so sure. I'm only 16, so I'm not really an expert at anything, nor do I fully understand what's going on. That's why I'm asking you guys to explain things to me so that I might be informed. I really would like to know. What's happening in the U.S.???

Thanks for your time.

NO
We aren't even close to a Recession.
The economy KEEPS growing.
It takes two consecutive quarters of negative growth (shrinkage) to qualify as a recession.

The last recession was the clinton/gore recession of 2000

Actually we aren't technically in a recession yet. The definition of a recession is a decline in the GDP for two consecutive quarters. This hasn't happened. The GDP isn't growing as fast as it has in the past few years but hasn't begun to decline either.

A depression is a period of significant business activity decline with high unemployment and deflation. The unemployment rate is still relatively low at 5% and there is still inflation. Business activity has slowed but isn't declining.

It is probable that we will end up being in a recession but extremely doubtful that we will end up in a depression.
