with or damaged.? My car is running rough(off and on) and my cousin said that it was the timing chain. I have had some work done on the fuel line and i am wondering if someone could have tampered with it while fixing the fuel filter. it didn't run rough like that before i had them change the fuel filter. I had the fuel filter changed because there wasnt enough gas getting to the engine. I also changed the spark plugs.

You almost need to remove the engine to access the timing chain on this engine.

At the very least you need to support the engine, remove the passenger side motor mount from the body. Jack up the motor

Remove the serpentine belt, alternator, power steering pump, water pump, motor mount, crank shaft pulley, and timing chain cover.

Tamper with the timing chain somehow but still keep the engine in a running condition

Put all of this back together.

This would be about a full days work.

Sounds like an awful lot of extra work for someone to do to get a job changing a timing chain.
