Is the Suzuki Katana 600 a good first motorcycle?

I am almost 6'5, 170 pounds, and in college. I am looking to buy my first motorcycle. I am heavily leaning toward the Suzuki Katana 600- is this a good first bike, one that should be pretty comfortable for someone my height? Obviously I will have to go sit on one to see how it feels. One person told me the 600 might be too powerful for a beginner. Thoughts?
 
i am 17 years old now, and when i was 15 i had a honda virago 250, as soon as i hit 16 i bought a 1000cc bike.

for your height a bike of that size might actually be comftorable , and as for the safety issues, from my experience as long as your are safe and careful and don't go out doing something stupid your gonna be perfectly fine.

a 600cc bike is definitely a good starter bike, in a couple months you'll be completely used to it, and wanting to get something bigger, i can guarantee it.
