Is the possession arrow the worst rule in all of sports?

I hate that stupid rule. It's basically giving the ball to someone on a jump ball. Jump balls can be unfair sometimes too (by that I mean actual jump balls where players go for another tip-off basically) when you have two players of different heights going against each other, but at least it has to be earned then.

I just wondered what everyone else's opinion of the rule is. I guess my opinion is pretty clear, although I'm willling to hear the other side of the story too.
Ron-D- This is an NCAA rule. The NBA still uses a real jump ball.

Ron-D Don't embarrass your self when you don't know what sport the question is asking.

I totally agree with you. I don't even know how college basketball determines who has the possession arrow otherwise you think you would hear about strategy coaches might use to gain the possession arrow at crucial period at end of 2nd quarter.

Even with height advantage guys still have to gain possession even after the taller person tips it. So it is fairer to determine possesion that way. Not to mention a lot of times a jump ball the person who had the ball previously might have been fouled or anything so that the opponent gains possession of the ball.

There's a lot of support for getting rid of the rule but a lot of "traditionalists" still out there keeping the game the same.

Yes I hate that rule alot too. Teams play great defense and force a jumpball but the offense gets bailed out by getting the ball back. I just wish the teams that play good defense get rewarded or have a chance to get the ball back rather than giving it back to the offense with a chance to run a play and score despite the solid defense.

I hate when the possesion arrow determines a game. I wish they could get rid of this rule and have an actualy jump ball.

I agree.

I think it's unfair and measures absolutely no ability from either team, it simply is an arrow that can greatly impact the outcome of the basketball game.

Once again, agreed 100% and I'm glad the NBA uses a jump-ball. College should switch as well because while I support most of the NCAA's rules, the possesion arrow has nothing to do with the better team winning or losing.
