is the playstation 2 dying? I don't see many games released, should I buy a ps3?

I don't see that many more games for the PS2 will be released in the foreseeable future, is it time to buy a PS3? Has Sony forgotten about all the PS2 owners? I don't want to buy a PS3 because it doesn't play PS2 games anymore
