When you are speaking about the Philippines, is it correct to say 'the Philippines is a collection of islands' or 'the Philippines are a collection of islands' etc... Because I was sure that you say is because even though it is an archipelago it is one country, not many. But MS Word is trying to correct my by saying that the Philippines 'are' such and such....?
Is the Philippines correctly referred to as singular or plural?
