Is the palm centro a good phone?

I am about to get the palm centro but i have been hearing that there are a few problems with the phone. I have heard that the keyboards go out easily on there and that if you get the palm centro without a data plan and you get a multimedia message it charges you for every message. can you help me out with this, i need a new phone soon..
