Although this is a common accusation, I've always been one who thought that for the most part, the news media does a pretty good job of keeping their biases to themselves...
But yesterday when Joe Biden told Katie Couric that after the stock market crash of 1929, Franklin Roosevelt went on TV to urge Americans to keep calm... (Herbert Hoover was president in 1929, and TV was not invented yet...)
There's nothing in the news...and nobody's laughing about it (besides conservative talk hosts...)
This was nothing more than an incorrect statement made by a politician who was attempting to make a point and was speaking without notes. It could have happened to anyone, but I can't help thinking that if Dan Quayle or George W. Bush had made this statement we'd be hearing about it every day ad nauseum, it would be made fun of in cartoons, on Saturday Night Live, and in numerous editorials, in an attempt to suggest how stupid the person who made the statement is.
But in this case, ostensibly since it was a Democrat who flubbed a statement, it hasn't gotten much if any coverage in the mainstream press.
Why is it hilarious when a Republican messes up but no big deal when a Democrat does?
