Our 1997 Honda Accord for a while has been making a buzzing sound when we drove, and was leaking power steering fluid somewhere, and today the belt for the power steering and ac came off and was pretty torn up. We took it to a mechanic, and this is the quote we got for what to fix and how much....
New power steering pump drive belt (i couldn't tell if that was one thing or two), alternator belt, a/c belt, crankshaft harmonic bouncer pulley, new water pump, anti-freeze, new timing belt, 2 can seal, 1 crank seal, and 6 hours of labor. The amount comes up to $1047.18 Is this a fair amount and does it sound like the parts are fixing a specific problem, and will this stop the leak of the steering fluid?
Ummm.... who said i was complaing? I am simply asking if it is a fair price, nowhere did i say anything that i was blaming the mechanic for anything. And for what its worth, we had no choice but continue to drive the car, had no money to fix it at the time and is the only transportation to make money. I did not ask for anyone to put me down, i was simply asking if its a fair asking price

Lets see, you knew well in advance there was multiple a problems, but, continued to operate the car. Then, once it quit, your now bitching about the price the mechanic is asking???? I would charge you triple, because you'd turn out to be a customer who either, wouldn't pay, or the one who blamed the next flat tire on the mechanic who changed the left front head light.Seen your type 100K times. Your getting off cheap.Sounds like the water pump seized up.I think his price is cheap for the work he has to do. Why are you deserving of your salary, but for some reason, a mechanic is not? Can you trouble shoot it,or, fix it??

I don't think your car needs all that stuff but you need to take it to another reputable repair shop to get a estimate.

HELL thats to much!!! What ever you do KEEP AWAY from that shop. Go to several others and get quotes first. But do not mention to none of them the first quote and parts they wanted to replace from the first shop. Then you can see who is telling you the truth and is giving you a fair and HONEST price. Good luck and keep us updated.

this mechanic is taking you for a ride. for that price,go buy a nice used car. but for god's sake don't buy a neon. i had one and it was nothing but trouble. i bought everything new under the hood even a new fuel pump, still had trouble so i gave it away because i would never dream of selling a lemon to anyone. find a good mechanic that won't lie to you, especially if you are a woman, they will tell you anything because they think most women are dumb about cars.
