Here in DC they were recently considering a sugary-drink tax. There would be a per-ounce tax on sodas, fruit drinks, gatorade, and engergy drinks.
The reason they avoided the tax (which is fine by me) was that it would adversely impact the black community since they drink so much soda and can scarce afford to spend more money since they make so little.
So, a soda tax was avoided because of its adverse impact on a minority group.
I think it time that we do the same.
