Is the mainstream media (MSM) irrelevant?

To be fair, I suppose if you're only interested in entertainment news or fawning coverage of the president, then the MSM serves a purpose.
The MSM is in the process of canonizing Ted Kennedy. Unfortunately, they are doing younger Americans a disservice by not reporting on:

(taken from The New York Conservative blog)

"He has played a very critical role in bastardizing the American electorate in two very damaging and seemingly irreversible ways.

The first was his staunch support of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, in my opinion the single worse piece of legislation in American history, and the second was his staunch support for abortion rights.

The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 which overturned the provisions of the Immigration Act of 1924 essentially opened the flood gates to the third world and chain migration and it has severely and permanently downgraded the integrity and quality of intelligence of the American electorate.

To quote Simon Rosenberg regarding the act, “the most important piece of legislation that no one’s ever heard of,” and that it “set America on a very different demographic course than the previous 300 years.”

Abortion obviously is the greatest travesty of justice in American history and Kennedy has sided, from my research at least, on every single piece of legislation that has been used to murder the unborn.

Elected to serve for more than 40 years in the Senate by the idiots of the great State of Massachusetts he has done damage to this Nation of a magnitude Osama Bin Laden could only dream of."

Not to mention Chappaquiddick!

It was always mind-boggling to me that the people of Massachusetts continued to re-elect this man for almost 40 years. Must be something in the drinking water.
