Is the iPhone 3GS a good student phone? What about a good business phone?

Is the iPhone 3GS 32GB a good phone for high school? My needs are browser, eMail, study materials, Microsoft Office (I understand there is an app called QuickOffice), media player, etc. From my research, I concluded it is the best phone for me. Is it?

If I were to get the iPhone 3GS, my parents would follow and get 8GB iPhone 3Gs. Is it a good browser phone with eMail, stocks, media player, calendar, maps, etc? Is it too slow (that's what I heard from what I think were anti-Apple articles)? Thanks for your input.
 
i am a junior. i had the iphone before. the web browser and music player are really good. but it was hard to text. i had quickoffice and it was annoying to make word documents for school. i recommend that you instead get the nokia e71x or blackberry. also get the data plan.

my mom has the nokia e71x. it has 3G too, which is awesome. it was hard at first to type but then it got easier. its a really sleek phone.
my dad has the blackberry bold (the best current blackberry phone). it has 3G while the blackberry curve 8900, which is a nice phone too. doesn't. i borrowed my dad's bb bold once and typed an essay on the train for school since my phone was dead and just emailed it to my teachers.saved my grade.
i now have the google g1. i had the iphone before but i like the g1 better. but i think my parents have better phones than me.
