Not too long ago, an insurance agency (state farm i think) held a contest for a person or team of people to develop a car that would get at least 100 MPG (a non-hybrid). One guy had a late 80s mustang with 400 horsepower and 80-90 miles to the gallon. He was a former engineer for Ford and GM. He said that the auto makers had always known how to make cars this fuel efficient, the ideas were simply bought by oil companies for millions and millions of dollars. This is strange because the government seems to not care much about this. They say we need to cut down on oil usage. Well then, why don't we have these fuel efficient cars? Our major auto makers are struggling with competition from Toyota, because their cars will further on a full tank. Why is our government contradicting itself in this way? Can't they take some sort of action against oil companies bribing these brilliant people to keep quiet?
