Is the European version better?

I recall that the european version of the m130 came with a travel charger that worked in the US, and did not use a transformer. I bought two m130's from the same store in the US, and one came with the (superior) travel charger that the europeans get, and the other came with a transformer. They were the same model and price from the same store.

Is it also the case with the TX that some come with travel adapters?

I called Palm, and the sales rep denied it, saying that all the TX's come with a clunky transformer even in Europe, but I just don't trust those guys. Who knows better?

I bought a US version first, as it was 40% cheaper than the European one, and I was travelling through SFO (where there's a Palm shop) at the time. It came with a 110v-only transformer which was useless to me. It was still 35% cheaper once I'd also bought a USB charge cable on eBay though.

When that TX took an unplanned overnight bath in a stream, I replaced it with a UK model. That came with what I think is also sold as a travel kit - a 100-240v switching power supply with changeable plug pins, eg. for UK, mainland Europe and US.

I don't think the Palm guy was lying /as such/ - after all, it is still a transformer, it's just that it's capable of accepting more than just 110v. (-:

Thanks for the feedback Bryanb. I'm glad to know that there are some European versions w/ better power supplies.

Really? AFAIK, transformers have a fixed size that only supports 110 or 220. Are you sure it's not a switching power supply? Switching power supplies tend to be small and lightweight because they don't have a transformer.

BTW, California has essentially banned transformers because of their inefficiency (see http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...ex=1&resultIndex=1&searchTerm=switching power), though the laws seem to have not taken affect yet. I wish they would kick in so Palm would be forced to distribute the EU version.

Has anyone purchased a Palm TX in California recently? Maybe vendors are giving Californians the EU version and not being open about it.
