I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. Some Wires to the trailer hitch burn and the wires touched. I think this blew out the BCM which controls the Instument panel which is linked into the turn signal curcuit. I have nothing associated with the instrument panel, No gas Gauge Tach, Speedo, Water temp, idiot lights, turn signals or mileage. I contacted dodge and they say that the BCM is linked to the Vin number and that you can't use a used BCM because it is programmed with the functions or options that it supported in the old vehicle. They say that if you install a used BCM, that it will reflect the old programmed settings and that it can't be reprogrammed. That sounds dumb to me, but they warned that installing one could burn up the cars computer since it will start looking for the old options and they may not be there. They want 680.00 to install a new one and program it... Even then it could be a bad instrument panel. But the BCM has to be functional to check that out. Is there any Dodge Mechs or electrical specialists out there that can honestly tell me if this is true and what they would suggest is the best course of action... Can a regular electrical shop program the BCM or am I stuck. Thanks
