Is the Dawes Lightning Al road bike a good investment?

Im 18 and just completed my first triathlon. I did good on the swimming and running, but did bad on the biking because all i had was a mountain bike so i figure its about time to buy a road bike. I don't have a lot of money to spend and found this one for $270 and it retails for $800. Just want some input on if this is a good first road bike to start out with for the money?

well
it will be a lot better than a mt bike
for the money it might be ok
it won;t be the fanciest or most durable bike in the world
or the lightest
but it will beat a mtb

$270 is a very good price
where are you getting that?

wle.

There aren't many road bikes around for anything near that price. If it's like the Lightning 1000, it's got a triple crankset w/2200 shifters. For training and competition, I'd try to bump my budget a bit and get something more appropriate to the task such as a 9-sp Tiagra equipped bike with a double crank and carbon fork. Tiagra is actually pretty good, certainly better than Sora or 2200. If you can't go higher, I understand. You could surely do worse for the same money.

Since you might be going that route anyhow, check bikesdirect for more options.
