is the blackberry bold 9700 or the 8520 the newest 1, and which is better?

The 8520 is newer, but not as powerful as the 9700.
The 9700 is the Lexus of blackberries while the 8520 is a ford.
Both get you where you want to go, just one does it a lot fancier.
