is the Backflip really this bad?

I just got a Backflip 2 days ago, and I'm not sure if the phone is this bad or I got a lemon...

I performed a battery pull before leaving on a trip. I sent one text message and received one back. About 2 hours later I saw a photo op and tried to get a pic. The camera crashed repeatedly. In fact 1/3 to1/2 of the times I've opened it...it crashes. I get an out of memory error. After 2 texts?????

I accidentally touched the phone numbers while editing my contacts, and it starts dialing...my bad. However the screen goes black and I can't get it back on to hang up until after it connects. Very annoying. Battery pull solves it, but it's happened a few times.

I'm also having issues where the power button to dim the screen works. Then a second after the screen comes right back on. Locked, but back on. Battery pull solves this, again it keeps happening though.

I had once where the soft key to unlock the screen wouldn't work. Only unfolding the phone worked. Battery pull solved it.

I've averaged about 7 battery pulls a day so far, and that's unacceptable. The battery life on the phone already sucks. I have background data off, and have advanced task killer to shut it all down. I can't get12 hours with decent texting, 2 short calls and no surfing.

Is this phone really this bad? Any other users have similar experiences?

Thanks...

Maybe you're low on memory? All the problems you described could be attributed to that.

Try clearing some caches (Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> choose a big app here -> Clear Cache.

Uninstall some apps you don't really need/use.

I have adv task mgr installed, Facebook, Handcent SMS, and some fonts installed. Everything else is factory installed. My free memory was at 137mb. Is that bad? I wouldn't think so...

this phone got a number of terrible reviews. i would seriously consider exchanging it since you got it that recently.

Anything over 50MB of free RAM is excellent for Android to work with. Some people confuse free memory (as stated on Advanced Task Manager) with internal storage (as state in the Android settings menu somewhere). These can be the same thing on some phones.

I have 46megs free as stated by adv task manager. The only thing I can close would be Handcent. I can stop my mp3 frrom playing, but it's undet ATT music which always keeps opening.

That's plenty. Android starts to slow down under 30MB, really slow down under 20MB, and has problems (out of memory errors) as you get closer and closer to 10MB of RAM free.

Well, if that's all you have then you shouldn't need a task killer. Just make sure it's not setup to auto-kill everything, or you'll hurt battery life.

From the sound of it, it sounds like a bad battery. However, first download Spare Parts, and then check the battery history. Check out what "partial wake" has listed. If one of those has a bar going all the way across the screen, then that app is bad.

The general consensus is that the Backflip sucks, so I'd hop on something else if possible. AT&T really fudged it up.

33 megs of memory left and the camera is out of memory and another force close. I'm in Key West for a week. When I go home, this POS is gone. Can't even get pics on a trip...

hahaha omg! that's hilarious. that would actually make sense. but at the same time, at&t has the milestone which is identical to the droid (right?) and isn't the samsung galaxy s going to them or is it just going to t-mobile?
