Is the 4 cylinder Toyota Camry really that bad on gas?

I've read that for years the gas mileage for an automatic 4 cylinder Camry is 23 city/32 highway, but www.fueleconomy.gov states otherwise. I checked out the real world mileage there for the 4 cyl automatic Camry and just about everyone is claiming maybe 20-27 MPG with a mixture of highway and city driving. What gives?

That's like V6 mileage isn't it? Also, don't Camry's have huge gas tanks? Something like 18 or 19 gallons? So if automatic 4-banger models really got 30+ MPG wouldn't that be something like 550+ miles per tank? That's crazy. So what's the real story Camry owners? (Of automatic 4 cylinder models that is.)

toyota gets better mileage than most automakers' car. the 23city mpg is for ppl who drive in perfect condition like not flooring it and drive the speed limit. this car is top notch reliability and good mpg
