Is talking to people who aren't there normal?

I've heard that talking to yourself is normal and can even have mental benefits. But I don't talk to myself, I talk to people who aren't there... I'll have these mental conversations with people I know in real life (or celebrities, or people I make up) and I'll speak my side of the conversation and make up theirs. I didn't think it was a big deal at first, but I do it all the time now... I just spent the last two hours carrying on imaginary conversations with people. I basically imagine scenarios that I'd like to happen (getting revenge on an ex, going on a date with a really attractive guy, confronting a friend with something I wouldn't have the courage to actually confront them about, etc) and then talk out how I'd like it to play out. When I'm in class or whatnot, I'll pretty much just sit and have these mental conversations, and sometimes people gets really weirded out because I'll move my lips or make facial expressions or occasionally say something out loud on accident.

I'm really not sure if this is normal behavior and what to do about it if it's not. I was diagnosed with paranoia once a few years ago, but I dismissed that after about a year as being silly, but now I'm getting a little paranoid that it might have actually been true, and that I need to worry about it. Haha, getting paranoid about being paranoid... anyways, any thoughts? It gets really distracting at times.
