is super smash bros brawl a fun game?

I played melee for about a half hour after I borrowed it from my friend but I really sucked at it and I didnt like it, I also played brawl at game stop but the controlls seemed really wierd, if I pressed down, the option went right, and the nunchuck didnt work at all either. So do you think I should play it longer, does it take time to get used to.
I have a game cube but I dont have a wii yet, do you think that this game is good enough to buy a wii just for it
