Is sprinting really not so good of a way to improve mile times?

I've had some other good answers from runners and some questions are resolved but one thing I don't understand. If the mile is 80% anaerobic and 20% aerobic, that's at least what I've heard from several sources, wouldn't the best bulk of training to do all out sprinting, going completely into ox dept at the end of each rep and being completely exhausted? I know that sounds wierd. I've heard that 400ms, and 800's help but you're not really at your max effort at those distances, that's why I've done sprints, from 45-50 seconds apiece eight times at least per workout. The reason being is because it sounds to me like the better you work anaerobically the better miler you'll be. I'm probably putting in around 20-25 miles per week, mixing distance and speed, but on different days of course. Is that enough or should I do something different. Thanks!
