is smoking outside while child is outside bad for his health?

i know smoking is bad, i try very hard to kick the habit. it doesn't matter the reason why i smoke because no reason would be a good one. The sad fact is that i am a victim of nicotine. It has gotten to the point where i will smoke outside while my child is out. He is 10 months old and has recently contracted bronchitis. i feel somewhat at fault after i have read so many articles saying smoking around infant raises the risk of bronchitis. however in my defense, i am never within 15 feet of him, i smoke only outside, and i am sure to be downwind of him and i always wash my hands and sanitize before interactions. I know being a parent i am already breaking a rule, not to put your child at harm. still i feel as though i was doing the right thing while being a bad parent. Am i a bad parent?
just a reminder, im not exactly smoking around my son. he sometimes is in the vacinity, not directly around. i would also like serious answeries please.
And i would like all to know with his illness i will be quiting. i need to do this for my whole family and their health.
for the record, i dont make him sit outside while i smoke. sometimes a family member has him out, for example: on halloween the whole family sat outside and handed out candy. my son was with his grandmother. so i walked to the other side of our house and had a cig.

no youre not a bad parent, but you will be if you keep smoking
if you keep smoking around your kid he'll get second hand smoke and die do you really want that?

Well, some people would smoke in the same room as their baby without thinking twice about it so kudos to you for actually thinking of your son first. You aren't a bad parent if you're taking all the proper precautions like the ones you listed above. As long as you don't smoke around him your okay I think. Sometimes kids just get sick and it happens without it being anybodies fault. Don't worry. :)

I started smoking five years ago and for the past 3 have been smoking a pack a day. If anyone knows how hard it is to quit smoking and about being a victim of nicotine it is me. But I would never, ever, ever smoke around my younger siblings, especially my brother who is 6 years old. In fact I recently started to quit for him. You say your child is 10 months old and has bronchitis and you only feel somewhat at fault when you are making him sit outside with you while you smoke? To answer your question honestly- YES you are a bad parent. If you cared you would quit or at least do it so that they never have to even know that you smoke. You are not only subjecting them to second hand smoke and other sicknesses, but you are setting a bad example. Shame on you.
