Is slow continous run really better than sprinting and walking? Including for the...

I run huge marathons all the time, if your average the best way to do it, is medium pase all the way. If you think you can challenge yourself, the best way to run miles for a competition is to start fast, then go easy halfway, then sprint the end. If your talking about a normal daily run for good health and exercise i reccomend the first thing i said.
 
...mile run? In PE, when we have to run about 15 minutes each class, I'm the only girl and one of the three people in the whole PE class to actually run the whole time without stopping. I can run for long periods of time (like an hour), but not fast.
So when we have the mile run, half the people that in class don't run the whole time beat me.
And it gets on my nerves because then they're all cool and pretending they're better than me. (but they can't run for an hour HAHAHA :) )
Anyways,
how is running the whole time really beneficial to me? The teacher always says "it's good and you're exercising your muscles and you're strengthening your muscles etc. etc."
That may be true, but it's not helping me in the mile run. I really want to get a good time.
I don't know if this really relates, but last year, I was kind of running the whole time each class and when I ran the mile run the first time, I ran with stopping. The second time, I ran without stopping. Guess which one was better. (the first one).

So the end question is:
HOW DOES RUNNING THE WHOLE TIME HELP ME IN MY MILE RUN?
