Is shooting someone with a plastic bow and arrow a crime that you go to jail for?

My son is 23 and i bought him a plastic bow and arrow for christmas last year. I don't think it is for hunting just for messing around. He took it everywhere even on the public bus. (He can't drive) It almost became like a security blanket for him. I didn't know what to do.

Well, he never shot it except at home in our backyard but 2 weeks ago he was at a mall and shot an older person in the leg. They arrested him and the public defender says he will probably go to jail for at least 2 years. The person he shot is fine and just needed stitches. My son is on meds for severe depression and I am worried what will happen if he goes to jail. also he is mentally challenged. What can we do?

You are an idiot for buying a mental whack job anything that shoots and can break the skin. If it didnt have rubber suction cups on the end of the arrows, yes he can be charged with assault. If it is not really a "play" bow and arrow, he can get charged with assault with a deadly weapon. I dont know who showed the lesser mental capacity here, him or you.
