Is shooting in RAW mode the ONLY way to successfully upload photos online without it losing a lot of quality?

The way I worded that was probably confusing. Sorry. Let me explain. I have a Sony alpha350 and I usually use iPhoto to upload the photos to my MacBook. I edit them through Photoshop a lot of the time. But after editing them and upload them on to tumblr or facebook (or anywhere really), the photos have lost a lot of quality. I know shooting RAW usually fixes this and I don't mind taking the time to manually post-process them, but sometimes I don't have the patience and it does take a while to get them on my laptop with the large file sizes. And I do realize there are inappropriate times to shoot RAW so it's not like I always do. But I do prefer the visual outcome of the RAW format so that's why I was wondering if shooting RAW is the ONLY way to not have complete loss of quality in a photo. I've only started doing photography 3 months ago, so I don't know too much. Thanks for the help in advance.
