if your thesis is re-workable, i can help you, if not, sorry, because paper is most definitely not the biggest cause of deforestation
http://www.tappi.org/paperu/all_about_paper/paperClips.htm
"When timber companies do harvest trees for paper, they do not just cut them down and leave the land bare. That wouldn't make sense. Timber companies need trees to keep their companies in business."
In other words, lumber companies replant trees so that they can stay in business.
Even in the amazon, the biggest location for deforestation, paper is not the culprit.
http://www.mongabay.com/brazil.html
"Causes of deforestation in the Amazon
Cattle ranches 60-70%
Small-scale, subsistence agriculture 30-40%
Large-scale, commercial agriculture 1-2%
Logging, legal and illegal 2-4%
Fires, mining, urbanization, road construction, dams 2-4% "
it's a common misconception. a lot of people who are concerned for the environment make assumptions without doing the research (as do most people in the world, sadly :/) and wrongly see paper and lumber industries as this huge negative impact on the environment. im not saying it doesnt have short term repercussions like displacing the wildlife in the area, but they plant entire new forests to replace the ones they cut down
sorry if this doesnt help you with your project, but hopefully you understand the situation a little better either way
