Is our female Beta fish sick?

We have had a female Beta fish for about 2.5 yrs. The last few days she is looking really fat with her scales pushed out. We have given her no extra food. She is still active and eats. We've never seen her this puffed out before. Is this normal or is she sick? Just want to prepare since we are quite fond of Bubbles.
