Is our civilization as wise as it used to be?

I fear that our civilization will perish because we are busy doing useless things like texting all day and kids have no respect for anyone (I'm only 17 by the way) It's like we have no real values anymore because of the way we are growing up with all the technology, its taking over our lives. I have constant realizations on what is right and wrong. Having common courtesy, and being polite, I grasp things that old people tell me since they have SOMETHING to say about life. Some people in my classes are so rude they don't care about any one, all they want to do is make a sceen and flash a stupid look. I'm angry at the world so, FINALLY I was just wondering if anyone else out there feels the way I do about this day and age, please feel free to agree or disagree.

Actually I would argue that the increase in leisure time is why we have achieved unrivaled heights in many areas of philosophy.
Perhaps the only thing that has suffered is the arts, this is only because many attempt to deny the human condition and the spirit that it fosters.

I agree with you fully because it seems horrible how self centered and vain today's youth is. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who simply loves to talk about people and I don't. it seems that hardly anyone anymore has any common courtesy, chivalry, or any sort of mannerisms that parents and grandparents fought so hard to instill in us. It really is very sicking the see dark road that America and the rest of the world is going on. by the way, im 15 if any1 thinks im jus sum griping old man.

Our civilization is getting lazy. The technologies that aide us slack our minds and poisons them with the thought that everything is easy because of tech. If we removed a lot of electronics kids will be more physically fit but will learn less. Of course it's theoretical.

This generation is very self centered and are more into individualism. But then I guess every generation has its own theme. It wasn't so long ago that Elvis Presley was thought to be a bad influence on the then teens. It wasn't so long ago the mini skirts were only worn by lose girls. It wasn't so long ago that television was invented, and the car, and telephones, and computers. All of which it was said they have some 'bad' influence on teens of the time. Just look at each generation and there desire to be not like their parents. Its a cycle.
