We have never, ever had a major party nominee propose wealth and income redistribution before. That is a staple of British politics: social welfare, The Welfare State, Socialism. No Democrat has EVER dared to go near European socialistic principles before. Not even McGovern. Combine this with the fact that Obama would be our first Protectionist president since Herbert Hoover - you know, the one during the Great Depression that Biden mistook for FDR? - and I fear Obama wants to usher in an American welfare state. And I am seriously scared that no Obama supporters seem to understand this. You all seem to think this is a bunch of Republican spin or something. Go to Obama's website! It's right there for all the world to see! Watch his interviews... all confirmed independently!
Do you people understand what it's like to try and start a small business in France? Do you know what the tax rate is in the UK? Do you have any idea how socialized medicine actually works, even in Canada? Do you really understand who you're electing, and just how different he is from Al Gore or the Clintons?
Yes, the bailout is socialism plus. But I argue that's trying to stave off a depression. What good will helping the poor do anyone? Not the middle class, who'll end up paying most of that bill. So I ask again, what possible good is there in giving free money to welfare leechers?
I dare one Democrat, one Obama supporter, to come up with a good reason for converting America into a welfare society. I'm tired of hearing "Republicans must pay in blood!" and "The corporations must pay!". The corporations never pay. They'll just leave. Our economy is in critical condition, so explain to me how raising taxes is going to help. Just explain to me that you understand and accept Barack Obama's economic theory, like the warning label on the cigarette pack.
I am not referring to the old "bigger government" talking point, and I even feel that universal healthcare is a good thing (if done right). Medicare and Soc. Sec. are both very important. The socialist tenet that horrifies me is the wealth redistribution. You don't give money away to people who haven't earned it, not in this country. You don't steal from the rich just to give to the poor. It helps no one, and it is morally offensive to me.
Props to the poster who just evoked Huey Long and Share the Wealth.
