Is my lowerback strain/sprain severe?

Moving around the house is extremely hard. I have to walk around pretty slow. Going up the stair (it's one stair, about 12in high) also kills me. I read online that if it's severe you can have problems with your bladder/bowels. Ever since it has been hurting me, I've had slight diarrhea.
I hurt it at school lifting weights. I'm new to this school and one of the workouts my coach had me doing was; Stand on a stool about 18in off the ground.
Hold the bar (45lbs), keep my legs straight, and bend down and get as close to my toes as possible, keeping a straight body and lifting with my lower back. I thought this was a terrible exercise, but didn't wanna be the mouthy/whiny new kid. I recently recovered from a lower back injury from playing football. I'm not obese, I'm just a little out of shape. I normally don't workout.
I've also been running a slight fever, and been feeling nauseous. I've been taking Motrin, and Excedrin every 4 hours or so.
