Is my Ford Explorer junk?

It is a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 4wd 4X4 Traction Control. Ok this is the deal. My friend said that if i hear in the Morning when i do a cold starts if it sounds like marbles in a coffee can then i should get rid of the truck. It don't sound like that but when i do a cold start It does make a small noise but only for like 1 sec and goes away. It sounds like maybe something hitting a cover kinda noise. Is it junk? I Just did a trade in on it and it was sitting on a car lot for 4k so if it was that much then you would think they would of checked it all out. Thanks
