I just replaced the alternator in my car. I bought a re-manufactured one off of ebay to save some scratch and I didn't pay a core charge. I took the old one to an auto-parts store and they told me to just throw it away. It seems pretty wasteful, especially since they charge you about $75 if you buy the same part from them and don't bring back the old alternator. Does anyone know who rebuilds these things and if they will buy them from individuals? It seems like I could at least get $10 for it. Even recycling it would be better than just dropping it in the dumpster.
