My bf of almost a year keeps giving me mixed signals. I am graduating from grad school in a year and would like to relocate to another city afterward. I have no particular place in mind and would be open to almost anywhere. I could potentially stay where I am for a few years (although it's not my first choice) if I got a decent job offer. In this market, one can't afford to be too picky I guess. My bf has tenure at a school, but recently stated he wants to go back to get another Masters in a different field, but isn't sure where yet. He says he's saved up enough money for it and could go anywhere. I thought that he was purposely saying this to align himself with me, esp. since he said he wanted to go in a year (when I graduate).
If I follow up on things a day or two later, he'll say that he still wants to go to school, but probably stay in the area b/c at least he has a job here while he's going to class. Then he'll say he has enough money for a down payment on a house (is this guy speak for hint, hint?) but he's not sure where he wants to settle yet.
To me, both seem very different. how can you have enough money to go to school (paid for in full) and a down payment for a house? One minute he's open to going anywhere, the next he wants to stay where he is. Then he's talking about buying a place, but then about moving all over the US. Is he just throwing random thoughts out there to see how I react, or is he just confused about what he wants to do? Is it a matter of having pride and not wanting to appear too desperate by not saying directly that he wants to go wherever I go, or am I just missing something completely?
