My son is currently 9 and for most of the time that he has been in school I have been unemployed. The company I worked at all my life closed down during his Kindergarten year and the only other job I've had since was only for 8 months. I've been able to be more involved in his life, but we have since lost our house and are now living with my in-laws. We also have to pass on a lot of things because of a lack of money. He also seems to be getting more defiant and I can't help but I feel he thinks less of me, because my wife went back to work and he doesn't understand the finances of our lives right now. All he sees is what he sees.
I know this sound foolish but my brother-in-law's whole personality (super saver and nervous about finances) are all traced back to his own father's lengthy unemployment.
