Hi all,

I am getting confused reading these forums and want to clear this up before I see my neurosurgeon again, regarding prolapsed lurabar disc.

Some posts in these forums and most things I have read seem to consider Microdiscectomy as minimally invasive surgery, however some posts (Keano16 if you are around please) seem to indicate that it is not.

So..
1. Are there different minimally invasive and invasive types of Microdiscectomy

2. What are the minimally invasive alternatives for a herniated lurabar disc?

Thanks!

Microdiscectomy is not minimally-invasive spine surgery.

1. Microdiscectomy includes muscle cutting for reaching spinal canal.
2. Minimally-invasive spine surgery includes muscle sparing and dilatation to reach spinal canal and disc structures.
3. MISS treatment can include laser spine surgery, METRx assisted spine surgery and endoscopic percutaneous spine surgery.
