I really want to buy an American car to help out the economy, but more specifically a Ford since they are not wanting to get a handout...I mean bailout from the government. The problem is is that there are not really a ton that interest me except the 2009 Mazda6 and since it is owned by the Ford motor company and the car is made in the USA wouldn't buying one be just as helpful to them as say buying a Ford Taurus or is it more complicated than that?

Unfortunately, when an American car company (Ford) has shares in a foreign car company (Mazda), the American car company will start to use their cheaper parts to build the foreign cars domestically. So basically, your getting poor quality parts in a Japanese car. Don't be confused about helping the auto industry by buying a Ford, the changes have to be made within the executives and the product, not with the buyer.

Forget it! The American car companies are doomed and you buying one little car isn't going to help them any more than the $17 billion handout. You're only asking for trouble buying an American made automobile. Mazda was originally a Japanese owned company but it is now owned by Ford along with Volvo and some others. If I were you, I would buy a Toyota or Honda, but not a Mitsubishi or Nissan. The Japanese industry has it's crap too, especially Mitsubishi. Consider this: Many Japanese auto's are made right here in the USA, by American workers, while a good chunk of GM cars are made in Mexico. So, basically, some Japanese cars are more American than the disgusting pieces of sh*t GM and Ford excrete.

buying any new car whether its japanese, german or american is helping the economy. you are keeping the dealer in a job as he gets commission from the sale.

maybe if chrysler, gm and ford stopped making c**p on wheels they wouldnt be in the mess they are now.

i always get a thumbs down for saying that, but as i live in europe, i know what a good quality built car looks like, and let me tell you, a dodge charger or chevy impala are not good quality cars. they use cheap hard plastics and poor building techniques that european/japanese car makers stopped using some time in the 90's.

edit: mazda is NOT owned by ford. ford have less than a 50% share in mazda, so it cannot own it.
