Is losing weight all about calories or what it is that you eat?

I'm pretty active, i work out every day. I've been debating with people whether it's mainly how many calories in a day that makes you lose weight, or if it's really just what you eat (whole grains, low fat, low carb, fruits, vegetables)

for example, i go by the calories. i'll take in between 1200-1500 a day.. eating healthy foods yet still things that i enjoy, like if i want a cookie or some chocolate i'll eat it.

or should i not eat sweets at all? i just took up kickboxing and i'm trying to get real slim and muscular..

well idk about it but i would go with the stuff u eat rather then calories. because u can eat greasy stuff and intake ur amount of calories but u won't lose weight at all cuz all that fat is stored in ur body

its what you eat.. i lost a whole bunch of weight last year because i took out all fatty food out of my diet.. i didn't eat out anymore or eat my weekly chips.. i didn't eat ice cream even though it was summer.. in stead i drank lots of water and ate fruits and veggies a lot.. eat lots of fiber too... and try to go # 2 more often... don't forget to eat protein for dinner
