High School teachers and University professors of American history across the country have made the comparison.

High profile personalities have made the comparison:

1. Cornell West,PH.D. professor Havard
2. Michael Eric Dyson,PH.D. social critic and scholar
3. Al Frankin, PH.D. social critic and scholar
4. Michael Moore, Film Maker
5. George Soro, Billionaire Media Tycoon
6. The list goes ON & ON & ON & ON.

I "PERSONALLY" do not believe that a point by point comparison of Bush can be made to Hitler. Hitler's actions have provoked a world war and put Jews, gypsies and homosexuals in extreme oppression, concentration camps and death chambers. (HITLER WAS FAR WORSE)

However, do you think that Olberman is right? This war on terror has stifled dialogue, promoted uncritical examination of American foriegn policies and etc in the name of freedom and the American flag. Although I think that our patriotism and overwhelming love for our nation is remarkable; However do you think future historians will be so impressed by our zeal? Remember historians in the distant future will look at this time period with a great degree of detachment. They will not fully comprehend the experience of living in our social context at this junction in history and there it will be difficult for them to discern the tone and mood of the nation in light of events such as 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. Future historians will only look at the facts and judge us by our actions. The same way we judge and assess history with a great degree of attachment as it relates to the Civil War, WWI and WWII and etc.

I remember my American History class in college that my professor was very “critical of America’s non interventionist mood in the 1930’s during the rise of Hitler. America did not want to spend money (especially since we were coming out of a depression) on what was perceived as an unnecessary war. America was more interested in rebuilding their lives and re-establishing the confidence of the American people. (I guess we would have to live during that time period to understand that kind of mood.) At that point, we did not fully comprehend what Hitler was capable of and America had problems of its own. Those who advocated interventionism like President Roosevelt did not do so openly. He played both ends from the middle. He pretended to be an isolationist at home but secretly supported the British against the Germans. Of course you all know that we ultimately got involved in WWII because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

However, my point is that modern historians who have the luxury of knowing how the outcome of the war and how the events leading to the rise of Hitler could have been different criticize the Isolationist mood of America. This may be because we do not fully comprehend the culture, historical events (depression) and general mood of the nation to re-establish and rebuild. (I think that American intervention in the war was ultimately good, but they didn’t know that)

Question for you:

1.Do you think that distant historians will write favorably about the times in which we live and ultimately support this war?
2.Do you think that the rise of patriotism is really a smoke screen for stifling critical self reflection?
3.Taking into consideration the cultural phenomena in this short clip in the age information age (1999-2008), how will history perceive us; the American people.
(brief reminders: Until relatively recently, the mood of the nation was extremely conservative, we were angry about 9/11, intelligence suggested that there were links between Al Qaeda and Iraq. We invaded Afghanistan and then Iraq. Some economist suggest that Iraq & Afgan has negatively effected our economy.)

In light of this information, make your assessments about America, detached from what we have experienced in this age of American history. (YOU ARE NOW A AMERICAN HISTORY SCHOLAR IN THE YEAR 2088 A.D. and you are WRITING YOU LATEST BOOK ABOUT THIS PERIOD OF HISTORY)

No

It is never 'wrong' to compare anything to anything heck one can compare oranges with apples it is all part of analytical discussion a means of examining issues. Most everyone comparison shops.

But as to finding a definite conclusions, to actually say that Bush is 'like' Hitler there are those that may define that as wrong.

That said it must be said that modern day Republicans such as Geo W have made it quite clear that anyone not sharing their views is a terrorist and Geo W and fellow Republicans insist that ONE PARTY rule ought to be the rule in America and that anyone running as a Democrat is a Socialist-Communist and thus a menace to American Democracy. Also Republicans favor conquering nations such as Iraq and now Iran and installing governments favorable to their views and these views are truly not that different from what Hitler had as his agenda for Germany.
