I have a psychiatrist and a counselor due to my my mother's recent passing due to terminal cancer and my father's recently diagnosed manic depression which has caused added stress during the past year. I've recently turned 18 and spend a reasonable amount of money on my psychiatrist and counselor. I try to be honest with them to help myself. I haven't seen them in about 2 months due to my move to University in a different city. I've been finding it hard to cope with my mother's passing and father's illness and naturally there are many pills lying around. Large amounts of Oxycontin, Klonopin, Codeine, Lorazepam etc. I've returned on mid semester break, and have made appointments with my psychiatrist and counselor. Recently I have been taking the various pills as my mother now has no use for them. I use them obviously to improve my mood after an upsetting day, especially so I can get to sleep. I can go without them for days and am in no way addicted. As I have now just turned 18 and pay both my psychiatrist and counselor, if I were to inform them of my new coping methods is it likely they would inform my father or doctor? I don't want to cause anymore turmoil within my family as we have been through enough. Are they bound to confidentiality with regard to prescription pill use? If not, it is simply not worth the hassle and I will omit this information from my forcoming sessions. Thank you in advance.
Would the fact that my pyschiatrist and counselor are aware of my father's wealth and the fact that he provides me the money for the sessions have an influence on this?
