...should i just drop the class and? learn on my own? I didn't even know that film was even sold anywhere... Its all digital now.. I am wondering if taking a photography class where they require to have a film camera worth it? will it be a waste of time and money to learn something that is dying?

Most Intro to Photog classes are taught using B/W film + darkroom techniques. Definitely take the class!!!!!

All the digital principles for photography are based on how film photography worked. Even the terms used in digital post-processing with S/W are all based on terms from darkroom developing.

So if you see how the principles worked with film, you'll understand better what the digital camera and editing software designers are trying to emulate digitally.

It's kind of a twofer - take one course and you'll learn essentially how to apply what you're taught to film and digital photography.

You can always take other classes in future that build & teach you to be creative in funkier ways with digital images. It's like painters being taught classical art techniques before they diversify into abstract or other post-modern techniques.
