I know that when maintaining a car under 80,000 miles it is important to flush your transmission every 45,000 miles. I also know that when your car has a high mileage and has been having transmission problems, it could harm your car to replace transmission fluid and the transmission filter.
So, I got my car, 97 Toyota Avalon, at 160,000 miles and i am not really sure if the transmission was maintained before i got it. Now at 197,000 miles my tranny is beginning to slip and when it switches gears, it is punching pretty hard. Should I waste the money on trying to flush my car or should I begin shopping for another car.... My budget is pretty low. And I know with all the problems that this car has given me, it isn't worth replacing my entire transmission.
