ok so lets start from 8th grade. we were learning about the civil war and we watched this movie glory and i didnt think anything of it but i loved it and i have it now and ive watched it a few times. (its about colonel robert gould shaw and how he led the 54th mass. regiment who was one of the first black ones into battle on fort wagner and stuff...)anyway that made me read "Blue-Eyed Child of Fortune" which were a collection of letters he wrote to his family from i think it was 1861 to 1863 when he died and i loved the book too. i still really dont know why he interests me so much but anyway i was at the rec with my friend and there was a graveyard next to it so we decided to go check it out. and theres some newer graves near the entrance (one of which i fell on :/) they have flowers and stuff but when you get farther back its so sad. the headstones are all fading and no one has flowers. all these people are forgotten. at the way back you cant even read the headstones but i could tell this section had some graves from the civil war cause of the guns and im just thinking about what robert went through and how all these soldiers-no matter how long ago-lost their lives for their beliefs and the union and i think that should be remembered. So would it be weird if i put flowers on their grave? i think they deserve to be remembered and i want to show that i havent forgotten what they did if no one else will.
